Viallo uses GPS-based organization. Upload 200 photos from a family vacation and they're automatically clustered into places like "Barcelona, Spain" and "Sitges, Spain" using the GPS data embedded in your photos. Recipients can browse by location on an interactive map, which is much more intuitive for travel albums, event photos, or any collection where "where" matters more than "when."

Neither approach is universally better. For daily baby photos, chronological is natural. For a family reunion album, a birthday party, or holiday photos - location-based grouping helps people find what they're looking for faster.

Privacy and control

FamilyAlbum's privacy model is simple: only people you invite to the family group can see the photos. There's no public access, no links floating around. This is particularly reassuring for parents sharing photos of young children - the photos never leave the closed group.

Viallo's privacy works differently but can be equally secure. Share links use randomly-generated 16-byte hex IDs that are practically impossible to guess. If free unlimited storage is the main thing and you can live with ads, FamilyAlbum is hard to argue with. If you need password protection, analytics, or the ability to share with people who won't install an app, that's Viallo territory - FamilyAlbum just doesn't do those things.
