What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants use tools and data from other services. With Viallo's MCP server, the assistant does the thinking and Viallo serves the data — scoped to exactly what you approve on the consent screen.
What assistants can do
- Find photos by album, date, place, caption or tag
- Create, rename and organize albums
- Create and revoke share links
- Upload photos from your device (two-step, direct to storage)
- View a photo you explicitly asked to see — every time, logged
What assistants can't do
- Scan or analyze your photos in the background — never
- Search photo content (“the photo with the red balloon”) — Viallo servers do no AI image analysis
- Read a photo without you triggering it — the default is metadata-only
- Access anything beyond the scopes you approved

Viallo never trains on your photos
The MCP server is metadata-only: album names, dates, places, captions and tags. Photo files leave Viallo only when you trigger a photo-reading action — never in the background.
Your assistant is a separate company
Consumer accounts (Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini) may use content you share with them for model training by default — you can opt out in your assistant's settings at any time.
Local mode — the maximum-privacy tier
With a local model (Ollama, LM Studio), nothing leaves your device at all — the strongest privacy option for the assistant side of the connection.
Disconnect any time
See what each connection can access and revoke it — which removes the connection and its tokens, while security activity entries are kept for 90 days — in Connected Apps. Access tokens expire automatically.
